YOUR BOOKSTORE STAFF
The Swarthmore College Bookstore staff is a small, dedicated group. We encourage you to stop by to visit us any time you are in the area. Feel free to call if you want to be sure that the person you seek will be available. Here is a little bit about each of us:
Linda Bordley is our Office Coordinator, which means she keeps the Bookstore running! When you phone the store's main number (610 328-7756) you will hear Linda's friendly voice on the other end of the line. Linda has been at the Bookstore for 17 years and we're all hoping she stays long enough to receive that 25-year service award because we don't know what we'd do without her! Kathy Grace is our Director. She has been in the college bookstore business for almost 25 years-the past 15 at our Bookstore. Kathy orders all of the non-book merchandise, works on special projects (like this web site), and attends lots of meetings! Mike Harper is our newest employee. He has been with us for a little over three years. Mike works with pretty much everything here from textbooks and general books to gift items and clothing to food and sundries. Steve Levin came to us 11 years ago after a number of years at Walden Books (don't worry Steve, we won't tell how many!) and a bit of time at the University of Pennsylvania Bookstore. Steve is our book expert. He handles textbooks, reference books, and leisure-reading books. Steve is our resident music expert as well. He supplies most of the music you hear in the Bookstore and has been known to lend music to WSRN-the campus radio station! You can reach Steve at 610 328-8018 or slevin1@swarthmore.edu
Martha Townsend is the smiling woman behind the cash register in the middle of the day (generally 10am to 2pm). Martha came to us almost four years ago with loads of customer service experience, energy, and enthusiasm. Bear and Ali are our "customer service specialists." They're also Steve's black Labradors. They came to work one day with Steve when they needed to be out of the house for the day. And our students just loved having surrogate pets here! So, Bear & Ali come to work almost every day now. The joke in the store is that when Steve is off for the day, no one notices but everyone misses Bear & Ali!
Bart and Harry are the "executive assistants" to our director. OK, in truth they are Kathy's "tuxedo cats" (black & white). Since we were already a "species diverse" bookstore when Bart and Harry came to live with Kathy, we decided to give them a chance to "work" as well. They come to the Bookstore on days when Kathy has work that will keep her in her office most of the day. Bart and Harry have a lot of fans on campus, too. They enjoy holding "office hours" for their visitors!
